The opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 was supposed to be all about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who were playing the tournament after 15 and 7 years, respectively. However, the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi hogged all the limelight and broke all records on his way to scoring the second-fastest hundred by an Indian in List A cricket.

The Bihar opener took just 36 balls to complete his ton. However, the Indian record is still held by Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh, who struck a 35-ball hundred against the same opposition in 2024.

That said, let's take a look at the five fastest players to smash a hundred in List A for India.

5) Abhishek Sharma - 42 balls, PUJB v MP, 2021

On March 01, 2021, Punjab's Abhishek Sharma smashed a brilliant century against Madhya Pradesh. But it was no ordinary ton. Sharma took just 42 deliveries to hit the hundred, recording his name in history books. He left behind Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav to register the then-second-fastest hundred in List A cricket and now the fifth.

4) Urvil Patel - 41 balls, GUJ v ARP, 2023

Only a day after the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans released Urvil Patel ahead of the 2024 season, he scored an unbeaten 41-ball 100 for his state side Gujarat in their Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh in Chandigarh.

Opening the batting in a chase of 160, the right-hand keeper-batter slammed nine fours and seven sixes on his way to the landmark, and ensured that Gujarat reached their target in just 13 overs.

3) Yusuf Pathan - 40 balls, BRDA v MAH, 2010

On February 16, 2010, Yusuf Pathan entered the record books as he slammed the third-fastest hundred in List A history, off 40 balls, to help Baroda stun Maharashtra at the Sardar Patel Stadium C Ground. Chasing 231, Pathan walked in at the 23rd over with the score at 99 for 3. With eight boundaries and 10 sixes, by the 37th over, he had finished the game.

2) Vaibhav Suryavanshi - 36 balls, BIH v ARP, 2025

Bihar batter, on the inaugural day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, notched up the second fastest century in List A cricket for India, after Anmolpreet Singh, who did so in just 35 balls for Punjab against Arunachal Pradesh in the previous season.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi surpassed Yusuf Pathan in this aspect, who had scored a 40-ball ton for Baroda against Maharashtra back in 2010. Urvil Patel and Abhishek Sharma are the other batters on this list, having notched up 41 and 42-ball tons for their respective teams.

1) Anmolpreet Singh - 35 balls, PUJB v ARP, 2024

On December 21, 2024, Anmolpreet Singh, the Punjab top-order batter, went into the record books for hitting the fastest List A century as an Indian, his 35-ball effort putting him at No. 1 on the all-time list.

Walking out at No. 3 against Arunachal Pradesh in a Vijay Hazare Trophy game in Ahmedabad after the fall of captain Abhishek Sharma in the second over, Anmolpreet got to his century with 11 fours and eight sixes.
