June 2024 etched itself into the hearts of Indian cricket fans forever. After a tremendous campaign throughout the tournament, Team India lifted the T20 World Cup, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought.

But a year back, on this day, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma’s exceptional innings against Australia is still fresh in memories. But his sheer carnage in a single over against Mitchell Starc, stole the show, and was a moment of madness that left the star pacer stunned.

Ruthless Hitman Left Starc Shell-Shocked

Rohit Sharma’s white-ball brilliance is known to everyone, but he redefined his nickname ‘Hitman’ in the T20 World Cup Clash against Australia in 2024. Coming to open the Virat Kohli, the Hitman, put on a brilliant show. After Kohli walked away on a duck, he took the charge, and there was no looking back.

But Rohit's explosive mode was unleashed when Mitchell Starc came to bowl in the third over. He launched the first ball for a towering six over deep extra cover, and without missing a beat, sent the next one soaring into the stands again. Those consecutive sixes put Starc on the back foot.

Starc tried to change his line with the third delivery on middle and leg, but Rohit had other plans, flicking it for a boundary. After that, Rohit smashed a fourth delivery into a massive 96-meter six, followed by another one in the last delivery. By the end of the over, Rohit had plundered 28 runs, leaving Aussie speedster rattled.

Even after Team India lifted the T20 World Cup after 17 years, Indian fans had a heartbreak. After finishing as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer, the Hitman announced his retirement from the shortest format, closing a legendary chapter on a high note.

With 4231 runs in 159 T20Is, including 5 centuries and 32 fifties, Rohit Sharma redefined excellence in the shortest format. Against Afghanistan, the Hitman played his highest T20 runs of 121 runs in 2024. As he bows out, his retirement marks the end of a golden era in India’s T20 journey.
