Melbourne Renegades’ explosive opener Josh Brown was bested by Stars pacer Joel Paris for just six within the first over of the match. Brown’s opening partner Jake Fraser-McGurk launched a four and a six before Mark Steketee ended his scratchy knock for just 12.

Defending 169, Melbourne Renegades fast bowler Gurinder Sandhu cleaned bowled Stars opener Thomas Rogers for just a single, and had Dan Lawrence nick one towards wicketkeeper Tim Seifert.
A couple of deliveries after Rogers’ departure, Stars’ number three Sam Harper became a victim of some indecisive running with Ben Duckett as the hosts slipped to 41-3 at one stage of their run-chase.

Captain Marcus Stoinis reformed Melbourne Stars’ run-chase pursuit with half-centurion Ben Duckett through a cunning 83-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Stoinis clobbered five boundaries and a six in his 35-ball 48, while Duckett notched up his 50 from 35 balls and top-scored with 67 from 49 before becoming Gurinder Sandhu’s third victim of the evening.
After Tom Rogers tilted the tide back in Renegades favor with the quick wicket of Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell at number six blitzed his team to a thrilling five-wicket win with two balls to spare. Australia’s hard-hitting radical smoked two sixes in his 10-ball cameo of 19*, and he received much assistance from fellow unbeaten lower-order batter Hilton Cartwright (24* off 12).
The outcome marked Melbourne Stars’ second successive win as they aim to climb up the BBL 2024-25 points table.
