Right before all the important events lined up in 2025, Pakistan have suffered a major jolt in the form of injury to their star opener, Saim Ayub. The opening batter was ruled out of the ongoing series due to an ankle injury and he will miss a minimum of 6 weeks depending on the seriousness of the injury.
On the first day of the second Test Vs South Africa, Ayub gave a chase on the field and twisted his ankle as he was badly hurt and was taken to the hospital for further scans. As per his scan reports, he will miss considerable chunk of cricket and could potentially miss a lot more, depending on the injury situation.
If he misses the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season, it will be a big jolt to the Peshawar Zalmi side. The draft will take place on January 11 and ahead of the event, we look at 3 players who can replace Saim Ayub, in case he doesn't get fit for PSL 2025.
3) David Warner
The latest and perhaps the biggest name in the PSL draft this time around, the Australian superstar was rejected in the IPL 2025 mega auction, and hence, he gave his name in the PSL draft pick.
Warner is an explosive player and will be a perfect like-to-like replacement for Saim Ayub. Both the batters like to attack, both are aggressive and Zalmi will be looking at Warner as someone who can mimic Ayub. Plus, his experience will also be crucial to this already stacked Peshawar side which also has Babar Azam in it.
2) Rilee Rossouw
The advantage of having Rilee Rossouw is that he has prior experience of playing in the PSL. The explosive South African batter represented Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans and has truckloads of runs in the league.
Just like Ayub, he can start hitting a cricket ball from the very start and could be a shrewd addition to the team as he can open, and can also bat at number 3 if needed.
1) Jason Roy
The forgotten star of English cricket, Jason Roy also has the experience of playing in the PSL. He played for Lahore and Quetta and had decent outings. One thing which works in Roy's favour is that he is an exceptional timer against both pace and spin, and this would allow Babar Azam to take his time in the middle.
Some of the pitches in the PSL do assist the spinners and Roy's ability to hit them will be beneficial if Zalmi signs him up.
