Off of a strong start, Sydney Sixers bagged a successful chase against Melbourne Renegades in their first encounter in BBL 14. The Renegades struggled from the beginning but Tim Seifert's knock helped them put a total of 169 on board. In response, the Sixers' skipper Moises Henriques anchored the chase resiliently for a 5-wicket win with aid from James Vince and Jack Edwards.

SIX vs REN Highlights: Sean Abbott Gets Big Fish McGurk Early

After being sent to bat first, the Renegades choked early. The powerplay overs were wasted as Abbott drew the first blood by dismissing the explosive Jake Fraser-McGurk with a slow delivery. Though McGurk started off fiercely smashing the very first ball for a boundary, he was sent back for 21 runs off 12 balls. Josh Brown also followed at the sixth over as Davies dismissed him leaving Renegades reeling at 60-2 at the end of 6 overs.

Tim Seifert, the Big Bash debutant, came in to bat after McGurk and anchored the ship of Renegades. With the small partnerships between Will Sutherland (36 off 28) and Josh Brown (22 off 10), Seifert was able to put up a decent 169 at the end of 20 overs for his team as he scored 55 off 42 deliveries himself.

SIX vs REN Highlights: Will Sutherland Scares Sixers With Crucial Chips

At the time when Vince was steering Sixers' chase steadily with his powerful strokes, Will Sutherland castled him to break the confidence. At the fourth ball of the 12th over, Sutherland jagged a length ball which Vince missed and the bails went for a toss.

After Vince's dismissal, Sutherland also took the wicket of Joel Davies, following Jordan Silk's dismissal by Hassan Khan just before that. It shook the Sixers in the middle overs as they were on a confident start at the beginning.

Henriques, the captain of the Sixers, came in when the team was two wickets down and played a gritty knock to stabilize the innings. He scored 53 runs off 27 balls, helping to complete the chase earlier than expected which was looking a bit difficult during the middle overs.

After Hayden Kerr was retired hurt due to a hamstring pull, Dwarshuis partnered with the captain and hit a boundary on the third ball of the 19th over, sealing the chase for the Sixers as they won by 5 wickets.
