The BBL 14 season has already started off in full swing as the league witnesses a high-octane clash between the Melbourne Renegades and the Sydney Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground. This is the first encounter between the Will Sutherland-led side and Moises Henriques' team in BBL 14 and it started off with the thrills.

In a thrilling encounter, Sean Abbott added a touch of spice to the proceedings with a cheeky laugh after dismissing Jake Fraser-McGurk in the very first ball of his over.

Abbott Cleans Up McGurk With A Cheeky Grin

Earlier this year, Abbott had praised Jake Fraser-McGurk for his explosive starts, making the dismissal all the more intriguing. In the first ball of the third over, bowling for the Sixers, Abbott delivered a slower ball that pitched full and wide outside off-stump. Lured into the shot, McGurk lunged forward to drive, but the lack of pace caught him off guard.

The mistimed stroke resulted in a leading edge, that sent the ball soaring high up in the sky. It was then comfortably pouched by Ben Dwarshuis behind the stumps. Following the dismissal, Abbott couldn't resist a cheeky laugh, seemingly enjoying the dismissal of JFM who was sent back for 21 runs off 12 balls.

Sixers Dismantles Renegades' Top Order

The incident added heat to the already intense BBL clash for the fans. The Sydney Sixers, who have historically dominated this rivalry, continued their dominance in the ongoing match. After winning the toss and electing to bowl the Sydney Sixers bowlers wreaked havoc on the Renegades batting lineup.

Following McGurk's early dismissal, Josh Brown was also dismissed by Joel Davies. Mackenzie Harvey, Laurie Evans, and Hassan Khan soon followed suit, falling prey to Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, and Jack Edwards respectively. The Renegades were reeling at 92-5 after just nine overs, facing a daunting task to post a competitive total against the formidable Sixers.
