West Indies pulled off a narrow 14-run win over Bangladesh in a low-scoring but gripping T20 match, thanks to an all-round performance. Batting first, the Windies posted 149 runs on the board.

In reply, Romario Shepherd and Akeal Hosein’s masterclass restricted Bangladesh to 135 runs, leading to a narrow loss.

Shai Hope and Alick Athanaze shine amid regular wickets

The West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first, but their decision didn’t pay off early. Taskin Ahmed sent Brandon King back for only 1, leaving the visitors under pressure.

But Alick Athanaze and Shai Hope steadied the ship with a classy 105-run partnership for the second wicket. Athanaze was aggressive right from the beginning, playing his shots to perfection.

He made 52 off 33 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes, and Hope anchored the innings with 55 off 36 balls, including 3 boundaries and 3 sixes.

Just when it seemed the West Indies were going for a massive total, Bangladesh launched a strong comeback. Nasum Ahmed sent back Athanaze and Sherfane Rutherford in successive balls, and Mustafizur Rahman picked up three important wickets, getting rid of Hope, Romario Shepherd, and Khary Pierre.

West Indies lost wickets in clusters after the 12th over, slipping from 106/2 to 149/9 by the end of their 20 overs.

Roston Chase remained unbeaten on 17 as West Indies set a target of 150. Mustafizur was the pick of the bowlers with 3/21, while Nasum and Rishad Hossain claimed two wickets each.

Bangladesh falter in chase as Tanzid Hasan fights alone

Chasing 150, Bangladesh got off to a slow start. Saif Hassan fell early for 5, caught by Brandon King off Jason Holder.

Captain Litton Das tried to up the scoring rate, hitting 23 off 17 balls before Akeal Hosein bowled him through the gate.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim was in good touch, playing nice shots on both sides of the wicket. He anchored the innings with a calm 61 off 48 balls, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes.

But he found no support from the middle order. Towhid Hridoy (12), Jaker Ali (17), and Shamim Hossain (1) were all dismissed cheaply as the asked run rate mounted.

Romario Shepherd turned the game in West Indies’ favour with his variations, picking up 3 key wickets, including Hridoy and Jaker Ali. Akeal Hosein also impressed with 3/22, sending back Litton, Rishad Hossain, and Nasum Ahmed.

In the end, Bangladesh managed only 135/8 in their 20 overs, falling 14 runs short. Tanzid’s brave effort went in vain as Holder and Shepherd held their nerves in the final overs.

With that victory, West Indies sealed the series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.
