Taskin Ahmed's embarrassing dismissal [Source: @FanCode/X.com]
In one of the most dramatic and bizarre dismissals, tail-ender Taskin Ahmed hit a massive six off the final ball only to realise moments later that he had actually been dismissed hit-wicket. This happened in the 1st T20I between Bangladesh and the West Indies at Chattogram.
With Bangladesh needing an impossible 17 runs off the last ball, the match was already beyond reach.
But Taskin, with the intention to entertain the crowd and accumulate as many runs as possible, stepped deep into the crease to launch Romario Shepherd’s full delivery over mid-wicket.
Taskin Ahmed falls to a bizarre hit-wicket dismissal
The ball soared cleanly beyond the ropes, but so did Bangladesh’s hopes because Taskin’s back foot clipped the stumps, dislodging the bails at the very instant he connected.
It was a strange, almost cruel twist of a six and a wicket on the same ball. Taskin Ahmed looked shocked as the replay confirmed he had knocked the stumps with his boot while swinging through his shot.
The crowd, unsure whether to cheer the six or groan at the dismissal, watched in disbelief as the West Indies sealed a 16-run win.
Bangladesh’s innings ended at 149 in 19.4 overs, chasing a target of 166. Despite a late charge from Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who scored 33 runs, the home side fell short due to a series of poor shot selections and missed opportunities.
West Indies starts series on a high
Jason Holder and Jayden Seales were the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, taking 3 wickets each.
Earlier in the game, Shai Hope and Rovman Powell combined brilliantly to take the West Indies to 165/3, scoring 51 runs in the last 3 overs.
Taskin Ahmed had been among Bangladesh’s best bowlers, taking two wickets and keeping things tight, until fate turned cruel in the final moment. With that win, West Indies took an early 1-0 lead in the 3-game T20I series.
