South Africa enhanced their Mirpur Test prospects further by the end of Day 2 courtesy of Kyle Verreynne’s splendid century and Kagiso Rabada’s late wickets.

Here’s the timeline of how BAN vs SA panned out in Mirpur:

BAN vs SA Highlights: Verreynne Swells South African Lead With Historic Ton

Resuming the South African innings at 140-6 with a lead of 34 on Day 2, overnight batters Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder stretched their unbeaten 32-run partnership to 119 runs for the seventh wicket. Mulder notched up his maiden Test fifty by scoring 54 from 112 balls with eight boundaries before he and fellow tailender Keshav Maharaj were knocked over in successive deliveries by Hasan Mahmud (3-66) at 227-8.

Verreynne marched on and listed his second Test hundred, the first-ever by any Proteas stumper in Bangladesh, and top-scored in the innings with a fighting 114 from 144 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes. The Proteas wicketkeeper-batter shared another 66 runs with number 10 Dane Piedt (32 off 87) to take South Africa to the brink of a 300-plus total.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (2-63) claimed the final two wickets on offer as Bangladesh folded up South Africa’s entire innings for 308 in 88.4 overs, thus conceding a 202-run advantage to the visitors at the halfway stage of the match.

BAN vs SA Highlights: Kagiso Rabada Gets The Early Wickets

South Africa’s milestone man and new ball operator Kagiso Rabada dismissed Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque in just his second over of the innings. Rabada’s double-strike reduced Bangladesh to 4-2 in 2.4 overs, thus prompting an early arrival of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto at the crease.

BAN vs SA Highlights: Keshav Maharaj Gets Captain As BAN Sniff Innings Win

Overcoming the early setback, and up against a huge South African lead, opening batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy forged 53 runs together with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to take Bangladesh past the 50-run mark. Against the run of play, the hosts lost skipper Shanto to some sharp turn from Keshav Maharaj at 59-3 in less than 19 overs.

Senior man Mushfiqur Rahim (31* off 26) and unbeaten Mahmudul Hasan Joy (38*) eventually extended Bangladesh’s total to 101-3 in 27.1 overs by stumps on Day 2, as they still find themselves another 101 runs away from South Africa.
