Riding on a sensational bowling performance from Taijul Islam, Bangladesh crushed New Zealand by 150 runs in the first Test of the two-match series in Sylhet. The Bangla Tigers took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series with this thumping win.

Chasing a challenging target of 332 runs, New Zealand crumbled to 113 for seven before stumps on day 4. Thus, they had an uphill task to complete when they resumed their innings on Saturday morning, needing 219 runs to win the game with just three wickets in hand.

After Daryl Mitchell and Ish Sodhi negotiated nine overs, Nayeem Hasan drew the first blood of the day for Bangladesh, dismissing the former in the 59th over of the innings. Before getting out, Mitchell scored 58 runs in 120 deliveries, showcasing his grit and temperament on a tricky surface.

However, after he fell prey to Nayeem, New Zealand's defeat was inevitable. Although Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi struck a few boundaries, their fireworks could only reduce the deficit, as the BlackCaps were bundled out for 181, losing the game by 150 runs. Taijul Islam emerged as the wrecker-in-chief for the hosts, claiming six wickets for 75 runs.
