Pakistan hard-hitting batsman Iftikhar Ahmed led Peshawar Region to an emphatic win over Lahore Region in their Pakistan National T20 Cup 2023 Super Eight fixture in Karachi. Earlier in the game, the 33-year-old picked up the key wicket of Lahore number three Tayyab Tahir and finished with impressive figures of 1-22 from his four overs.

Ahmed later bludgeoned a huge six down the ground off Saad Khan to finish off the proceedings in style.

Iftikhar Ahmed goes big to seal it for Peshawar

Tight spells from all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed, new-ball speedster Mohammad Imran and young left-arm spinner Azam Khan helped Peshawar restrict Lahore Region Whites to just 136-6 in their first innings upfront.

Chasing 137 runs to secure their opening Super Eight points of the competition, attacking half-centuries from Peshawar openers Mohammad Haris and Sahibzada Farhan guided their side at the brink of an emphatic victory before Lahore delayed the inevitable with a quick three-wicket burst.

Senior man Iftikhar Ahmed, batting at number five and arriving to the crease just a hit away from a win, straightaway bludgeoned Lahore spinner Saad Khan for a huge six down the ground to seal the deal for his side.

Iftikhar Ahmed recently turned up at the 2023 World Cup in India for the senior Pakistan team. Under Babar Azam’s leadership, the ‘Men in Green’ failed to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament, in spite of registering two emphatic wins upfront in the competition.

Ahmed starred in Pakistan’s easy win over Bangladesh with an exemplary all-round show in Kolkata and also picked key wickets for his side in key games against England and New Zealand.

Following the team’s return to Pakistan, the 33-year-old instantly returned to his country’s domestic setup in a bid to prepare for future tours.
