The Indian team pulverized Australia by a record margin to go 1-0 up in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series. Defending 534, Indian fast bowlers capitalized on their overnight advantage, with captain Jasprit Bumrah surviving a potential Travis Head scare on the fourth afternoon.
Here’s the timeline of how AUS vs IND panned out in Perth:
AUS vs IND Highlights: Australia Lose Steve Smith, Khawaja By Lunch
Mohammed Siraj carried on India’s new ball rampage on the fourth morning by bouncing out overnight Australian opener Usman Khawaja. With the hosts tottering at 17-4 in a chase of 534, Travis Head joined Steve Smith at the crease and the duo shared a fighting 62-run partnership.
While Smith nicked towards Rishabh Pant off Siraj at 79-5, Head raged on to whack a belligerent half-century, supervising Australia till 104-5 in 30 overs alongside Mitchell Marsh till lunch.
AUS vs IND Highlights: Bumrah Gets Head In Another Dominant Indian Session
Travis Head sparked Australia’s first and lone sign of intent in the run-chase with an attacking 89 from 101 balls. The left-hander smeared eight boundaries to soar his team past the 150-run mark, until he was toppled by Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah in the 39th over of the innings.
Mitchell Marsh also punched out a swift 47 from 67 balls, but was dismissed shortly after Head as the Australian all-rounder handed Indian debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy his first Test wicket. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey cautiously navigated Australia past 200 runs through a courageous 45-run eighth wicket stand with Mitchell Starc.
However, at the stroke of Tea, Dhruv Jurel held on to a blinder at short leg to get rid of Starc as Washington Sundar picked up his first wicket of the match.

Washington Sundar also dismissed Nathan Lyon just two deliveries into the post-Tea session as Australia lost its ninth wicket for just 227 on the board. Number 11 Josh Hazlewood hung around with Alex Carey for a good 15 minutes before the latter was knocked over by Harshit Rana.
With Australia folding up for 238 in 58.4 overs, Team India gained a huge 295-run victory to go 1-0 up in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series.
