Ravichandran Ashwin is set to return to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise for next year’s IPL 2025 season. On the day of IPL 2025 mega auction on Sunday, November 24, the legendary Indian off-spinner was roped in by the CSK management for a sum of INR 9.75 crore.

Expectedly, Ashwin’s celebratory return to CSK was dubbed ‘a homecoming’ by head coach and former cricketer Stephen Fleming shortly after their successful bid for the cricketer.

Ravichandran Ashwin made his IPL debut back in 2008 for the CSK franchise. He went on to play seven seasons alongside MS Dhoni, before he was reallocated to the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants. The legendary Indian all-rounder also played a couple of seasons each for Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, and spent his last three seasons at Rajasthan Royals until he was released by them on October 31 this year.

Speaking on his return to the CSK group after a gap of 10 years, Ashwin recalled his earlier playing and learning experience with the ‘Yellow Brigade’. In a video shared by the CSK on social media, the 38-year-old also added that playing with CSK helped him shape his international career, and he thanked the current management for reacquiring him at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Ravichandran Ashwin further stated that he is looking forward to getting reunited with former captain MS Dhoni, and is excited to play under new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Ravichandran Ashwin, with 180 wickets, is one of the leading wicket-takers in the history of the IPL. The off-spinner picked up 90 of those for CSK during his seven-year stay with the franchise.

Ashwin is currently in Australia as part of the Indian team for the ongoing five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against the hosts. He recently picked up nine wickets in three home matches against New Zealand.
