India's reliable batter KL Rahul registered a rare failure with the bat, as Australian captain Pat Cummins got his prized scalp in the ongoing second Test at Adelaide Oval. After Australia posted a respectable 337-run total in the first innings, Rahul came out to open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.

However, the veteran Karnataka batter couldn't play a significant knock this time, with Australian skipper Pat Cummins dismissing him with a well-directed short ball. The incident occurred during the fourth over of India's second innings.

Cummins, who opened the bowling with Mitchell Starc, initially kept Rahul under the pump with three consecutive dot balls. After setting him up with three successive full deliveries, Cummins targeted Rahul's body with a sharp short ball.

KL Rahul was surprised by his strategy and tried to somehow play a hook shot. However, he only managed an edge, with Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey taking a simple catch to send him packing. This was Rahul's first single-digit score on this tour, having played three praiseworthy knocks prior to this innings.

Shubman Gill Joins Yashasvi Jaiswal In Adelaide

After KL Rahul's cheap dismissal, talented batter Shubman Gill joined Yashasvi Jaiswal in the middle. Jaiswal, who got out for a golden duck in the first game, has countered Starc effectively with a slight tweak in his technique. At the time of writing, India were 34 for one, with Jaiswal and Gill batting on 18* and 5*, respectively.
