Nepal finished on 230 in their first-ever meeting against India on Monday (September 4) in Match 5 of the Asia Cup 2023 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. It was a more-than-a-decent total by Rohit Paudel & Co., especially against a attack which consisted of prolific wicket-takers such as Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Shami among many others.

After Rohit Sharma asked Nepal to bat, Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh got Nepal off to a flyer. The pair scored more than six runs an over throughout the Powerplay, as Nepal reached 65/0 in 9.4 overs until Shardul Thakur gave the Men in Blue a much-needed breakthrough.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals from thereon, as Nepal soon slipped to 144/6. Ravindra Jadeja was the architect, claiming three wickets while going at four runs an over. Kuldeep Yadav was the only bowler who remained wicketless, but the left-arm wrist-spinner bowled brilliantly, returning excellent figures of 10-0-34-0.

Just when Nepal seemed down and out, Sompal Kami stepped up with a counter-attacking batting show. Kami scored 48 off 56 balls with the help of one four and two sixes, as Nepal got past 200 without much trouble despite a prolonged rain break.

However, Nepal failed to last 50 overs, as they lost their last three wickets in the space of six balls before folding out for 230 in 48.2 overs. Mohammed Siraj put the final nail in the coffin, cleaning up Lalit Rajbanshi for a three-ball duck.

IND vs NEP Brief Scores:

Nepal: 230 (48.2)

Aasif Sheikh 58 (97), Sompal Kami 48 (56);

Ravindra Jadeja 3/40, Mohammed Siraj 3/61
