Virat Kohli seemed relieved after Aasif Sheikh's catch (X.com)
Virat Kohli dropped a simple catch at short cover on Monday (September 4) in Match 5 of the Asia Cup 2023 between India and Nepal at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. But shortly after, the 34-year-old was relieved, making a quick grab with one hand in the same spot that, more importantly, put an end to the dangerous Aasif Sheikh's presence.
Kohli's valiant effort came after the fifth ball of the 30th over of Nepal's innings, which was bowled by Mohammed Siraj. The right-arm quick bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside the off-stump, which Aasif Sheikh, batting on 58 off 96 balls, tried to tuck it into the leg side for a quick single.
However, Aasif's closed the bat face early, as he got a looping leading edge towards the cover region. Kohli spotted the chance very early, and tracked back quickly before stretching his right hand. It was spot-on timing, as the ace batter completed the catch without any woes this time.

Kohli was seen relieved after the grab, given he was humiliated after dropping a simple chance earlier in the innings. In the process, he completed his 100th catch in multi-nation tournaments.
At the time of writing, Nepal are struggling at 144/6 in 31.5 overs, with Dipendra Singh Airee batting on six not out.
