On Sunday, November 9, the 11th edition of Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) got underway in Australia with eight teams set to fight out for 43 matches to emerge as the champions of Australia's premier T20 event. 

The first day featured three matches, the showstopper being Sydney Sixers taking on Perth Scorchers at the WACA in Perth. The likes of Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner went face-to-face against Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine.

Ashleigh Garnder rattles Perth Scorchers on captaincy debut

Talking about the ongoing match, the Sixers are all over Perth as the Ashleigh Gardner-led side are close to a one-sided win. Gardner shone on her captaincy debut for Sydney as the newly-appointed skipper led from the front and set the tone of the match with a brilliant five-wicket haul.

Gardner, who recently succeeded Ellyse Perry at the Sydney Sixers, registered the figures of 5/15 in her four-over quota. Gardner weaved magic in the 8th over of the match when she got rid of Scorchers' captain Sophie Devine and Paige Scholfield on two consecutive deliveries.

Gardner then went on to pick the crucial wickets of Chloe Ainsworth, Alana King, and Lilly Mills to complete her five-wicket haul and also wrap up things early as Perth collapsed for just 109 runs. 

Gardner scripts history with record-breaking fifer

With the five-wicket haul, Gardner scripted history as she registered the best bowling figures by a Sydney Sixers player in WBBL history. She broke Ellyse Perry's record of 5/22. Here is the complete list of the best bowling figures by Sydney Sixers' players in WBBL history.
