In a significant development around IPL 2026, the Sanju Samson trade deal is picking up pace as recent reports suggest that CSK and RR have nearly sealed the deal for the RR captain. It is clear that the right-handed batter is looking for a new base for next season, and it seems that Chennai Super Kings will be.
According to a report from Cricbuzz, CSK have agreed to RR's demand of swapping Samson for Ravindra Jadeja. It will be a homecoming for the star all-rounder as Jadeja started his career with Rajasthan Royals and featured for the Men in Pink in 2008 and 2009.
Coming back to the trade, CSK require a long-term keeper-captain option, and Samson fits the bill. Further, both Samson and Jadeja have the same salary slab of 18 crores, which is why the deal is close to being finalised.
RR's Brevis demand delays Samson's trade to CSK
However, there continues to be a single roadblock as Manoj Badale, the UK-based lead owner of Rajasthan Royals, who is heading the negotiations, also wants to include CSK's new star Dewald Brevis in the deal. Although Chennai are not keen on giving away Brevis, who was their best player last season and look at the Proteas batter as their future.
Thus, the two teams are busy sorting this roadblock, and the deal will be finalised soon once they come to a solution regarding the Brevis issue. Nonetheless, the bottom line is that CSK are fine with Jadeja going back to RR, and the fans can soon witness a historic trade in IPL history.
Samson rejected by SRH
Despite the CSK deal in its final stages, RR are keeping other options as well to trade away Samson. Notably, the Cricbuzz report mentioned that the Men in Pink also approached SRH, but the Men in Orange refused to initiate any discussions, citing that they are not interested in having Samson because of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan at the top.
