In a significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released Hasan Nawaz from the ODI and T20I tri-series squad. While veteran batter Fakhar Zaman makes his T20I return and fills Nawaz's void in T20Is, Pakistan haven't added a replacement player to their ODI squad.

Fakhar Zaman makes T20I comeback as Hasan Nawaz's replacement

Since his breathtaking 26-ball 56 against the UAE, Hasan Nawaz has ensured a lean patch in T20Is, managing just 53 runs at a horrible average of 6.62.

Although he has been struggling with poor form for quite a while now, Pakistan haven't dropped him due to his recent performance. As the PCB revealed, the batter has been released to participate in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy, Pakistan's premier domestic red-ball competition.

On the other hand, Fakhar Zaman, who was one of the standby players for the South Africa T20Is, makes his comeback to the shortest format. Despite finishing the Asia Cup as Pakistan's second-most successful batter, Fakhar found himself out of the T20I squad when the Men in Green recalled Babar Azam to address their top-order woes.

Therefore, the Tri-Nation series is a great opportunity for the southpaw to show that he still has a lot to offer and stake his claim for a place in Pakistan's 2026 T20 World Cup squad.

Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan (wicket-keeper), Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan (wicket-keeper), Usman Tariq

Although Fakhar has come in for Nawaz in T20Is, Pakistan haven't added an extra player as the latter's replacement in ODIs. Instead, their ODI squad has now been trimmed to a 15-member side that will take on the Lankans in a three-match series, starting on the 11th of November.
