It was another comfortable victory for the mighty Australian side in the ongoing Women's World Cup 2025 against South Africa Women in Indore, where they won by seven wickets. On the back of a seven-wicket haul by leg-spinner Alana King, Australia bowled South Africa out for just 97.
Here, we take a look at the highlights of the 26th match of the ongoing Women's World Cup 2025 between Australia Women and South Africa Women, as it unfolded at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
Alana King's leg-spin proves treacherous as South Africa left shaken with just 97
The Australian side won the toss and put the South African side into bat, where they had to face the storm of leg-spinner Alana King. South Africa had a decent opening partnership, where they scored 32 runs for the first wicket, with skipper Laura Wolvaardt scoring 31. However, after she fell, wickets started falling in clusters.
While Megan Schutt, Kim Garth and Ashleigh Gardner picked one each, Alana King did most of the damage with seven wickets in her seven-over spell, where she only gave away 18 runs. From top to bottom, almost every batter was troubled by the spin of Alana King in Indore, who failed to read her googlies.
Out of her seven wickets that she took, four of the batters were bowled, and only three of the eleven South African batters were able to score in double digits.
Apart from Laura Wolvaardt's 31, Sinalo Jafta's 29, and Nadine de Klerk's 14, no other batter could reach double figures. In the end, the South African Women could only survive 24 overs, where they were bowled out for just 97 runs. From 42/1, they were knocked over in a matter of a few runs.
These figures of 7 for 18 by King turned out to be the best ever figures not just for Australia, but in the Women's World Cup history by any bowler for any nation.
Georgia Voll, Beth Mooney do the damage as Australia manage an easy demolition
Chasing a meagre target of 98 runs in the second innings, the Australian Women were in a bit of early trouble, with two wickets down for just 11 as Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry were back in the hut, with Marizanne Kapp and Masabata Klaas picking their wickets.
However, despite that, it was an easy job for the opener Georgia Voll, alongside wicketkeeper Beth Mooney, who stitched together a 76-run partnership for the third wicket, as Australia raced near victory.
Nevertheless, when they were just 11 runs away from the win, Beth Mooney lost her wicket for 42, after which Annabel Sutherland walked onto the centre and played a cameo of 10 runs not out from just four deliveries, with two boundaries, as she partnered with Voll (38 not out), taking Australia home comfortably by seven wickets in just 16.5 overs, where the Kangaroos women registered another comprehensive victory in the Women's World Cup 2025.
Kapp, Klaas, and Nadine de Klerk picked one wicket each, where the bowlers didn't have much to play with.
