Australian leg-spinner Alana King dismantled the famed South African batting line-up in match number 26 of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. After Australia won the toss and opted to field first at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, Alana picked up seven South African wickets to snare her career-best ODI bowling figures, and only her second five-fer in the format.
Notably, the 30-year-old also notched up a huge bowling record in the process in the history of Women’s ODI cricket.
Alana King picks up fastest ODI five-wicket haul
It took Alana King just 21 deliveries to pick up a five-wicket haul against South Africa Women in match 26 of the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup, thus marking the least number of deliveries bowled to claim a five-fer in the history of Women’s ODI cricket.
Alana King got into her groove in her opening over itself by getting the important wickets of Sune Luus for just six and legendary South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp for a duck. Her twin-wicket maiden was followed by another maiden over, before Alana knocked over Annerie Dercksen and in-form Chloe Tryon in successive deliveries to claim figures of 4-0 in 2.3 overs at one stage.
In her following over, the leg-spinner bowled over Sinalo Jafta after getting hit for two boundaries by the South African batter. At this stage, Alana King’s figures read an astonishing 5-12 in 3.3 overs, thus taking the fewest balls for any bowler in Women’s ODIs in picking up a five-wicket haul.
The 30-year-old then cleaned up Masabata Klaas and Nadine de Klerk to finish with career-best figures of 7-18 in seven overs as South Africa Women folded up for just 97 in 24 overs.
