26-year-old Australia Women pacer, Tayla Vlaeminck, has been ruled out of WBBL for four consecutive years now. Known to be hit by multiple injuries in her career, luckless Tayla otherwise is a pretty popular name in the women's game.
Tayla Vlaeminck is notably one of the fastest bowlers in women's cricket, clocking in at speeds of 120kph. Stressing on her injury-marred career, for the unaware, she made her 2018 debut after recovering from two knee reconstructions and a shoulder dislocation.
Tayla ruled out for 12 months
Tayla last hurt herself in the Twenty20 World Cup with a dislocated shoulder and also eyed a potential return with the Melbourne Renegades. However, her return was delayed since she was last fit to play back in 2021-22 where she featured with the Hobart Hurricanes.
Tayla, since then, have been suffering from foot and knee injuries. Speaking of her horrible run of injuries, Tayla shared her disheartening benching.
"I'm obviously a little bit shattered about missing out. Unfortunately, my shoulder's just not loving bowling at the moment, so there's not much I can do about that. I think we were hoping that my shoulder would probably respond a little bit better to bowling than it has. We lined up Big Bash to be that end point. But just in the last four weeks trying to ramp that up, it just hasn't responded the way we thought it would," Vlaeminck said at Cricket Australia's Smash Series launch.
Tayla thanks Cricket Australia for the support
The Victoria quick was, however, mindful of thanking Cricket Australia for sticking with her after her long injury battles. Though Tayla has been ruled out for 12 months for her dislocated shoulder, she is still optimistic of a return next year.
"I just like to consider myself pretty lucky that Cricket Australia have stuck by me throughout this whole thing. I've got heaps of support, and hopefully over the next four to six weeks I'll be able to continue to work on it and see how we go for the back end of the season," Tayla concluded.
Nevertheless, though Tayla is one of the quickest of the lot, her numbers have been subpar. In the 2021-22 WBBL season, she collected 13 wickets from her 14 outings, while in the previous season, she managed only 10 wickets from her 13 matches.
