Virat Kohli made headlines once again on Sunday when India were up against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series at BCA Stadium, Kotambi, Vadodara. The 37-year-old, who has been in impeccable form for both state and country lately, broke multiple records, which included leaving the great Kumar Sangakkara behind in all-time chart.

Coming to chase 301 against New Zealand, Kohli crossed the 28000-run mark in international circuit across format. In fact, he was the quickest to reach the landmark, followed by his idol Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.

India vs New Zealand 1st ODI Live Score: Kohli, Gill in control

After asking New Zealand to bat, Indian bowlers did alright in Vadodara. Except for Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja, they all chipped in with at least a wicket. While Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna took two wickets apiece, Kuldeep Yadav had the wicket of the dangerous-looking Glenn Phillips.

Yet, riding on Daryl Mitchell's 71-ball 84, ably assisted by Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls, New Zealand finished on 300/8. India, in response, is on 123/1 in 20.2 overs, with Kohli on 46* and Shubman Gill on 40*.

The second and third ODIs of the ODI series are scheduled for January 14 and 18 before the focus shifts to the five-match T20I series between the two sides.
