Sunday, January 11, marks a historic day for legendary Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and his family as he features in the Bangladesh Premier League fixture between Noakhali Express and Dhaka Capitals alongside his son Hassan Eisakhil in the same lineup for Noakhali in match 22 of the season.

This is the first time that the 19-year-old batter Hassan will play in the BPL, courtesy of his impressive numbers in short domestic career, averaging close to fifty in FC and List A cricket, while there is still some work to be done on the T20 game, having played only 30 matches so far.

Mohammad Nabi and Hassan Eisakhil set a rare milestone

Afghanistan legend and former captain Nabi made his professional debut back in 2007, when his son was just 11 month old but after being active for almost two decades now and representing Afghanistan in over 300 internationals to go alongside close to 500 T20 games, it was noted by fans and observers that at 41, the player was waiting to feature in the same lineup as his son in his professional career.

Earlier in December 2025, Noakhali Express had confirmed of roping in the son for the 2025/26 season, which will be played from December 26 to January 23. After almost three weeks of warming the bench, Hassan was finally handed his maiden cap by the franchise as they faced Dhaka in the bottom of the table clash.

This is a rare instance where both father and son are playing together in top level of professional cricket, like Shivnarine Chanderpaul and played alongside Tagenarine Chanderpaul for Guyana back in 2017. Similarly, Timor-Leste's Suhail Sattar, at 50, played alongside his son Yahya Suhail, 17, in 2025 against Indonesia.

Nokahli' struggles in BPL 2025/26

The ongoing BPL season has been nothing short of a misery for the Noakhali Express, with only one win to their name in 7 matches played so far. The solitary victory came in their last match against Rangpur Riders, where they managed to defend 148 by 9 runs with a 4/26 (4) for Hasan Mahmud with the new ball and several 30s for the middle order batters.

Experienced all rounder Nabi has also not fired for them a great deal, having played 4 innings and scored only 78 runs at a strike rate of 111.42, with the high score of 42*. With the ball in hand, he has only taken 2 wickets in 4 innings, while bowling at an economy rate of 6.33 runs per over.

With only 3 matches left in the season for them, the knockouts are out of question, but it remains to be seen how Hassan's inclusion at the top of the batting order provides a bit of morale boost to the team alongside his father.
