IPL 2025 is most likely to mark MS Dhoni's last IPL season. The 43-year-old is eyeing his 6th IPL trophy. The fans wait for those two months out of the entire year to see their idol in action. Meanwhile, the fans are also worried that the upcoming IPL window will be the last they will see MS play.
To a delight for Indian fans, SA20 league commissioner Graeme Smith hinted at MS Dhoni featuring in South Africa's premier T20 tournament after his retirement. Notably, the third season of SA20 is all set to kickstart on January 9.
Smith Expresses Love For MSD
Ahead of the upcoming season, Smith interacted with the media, when one of the reporters asked him about one Indian player he would like to bring into the league, to which Smith immediately took Dhoni's name.
“Ah, look, I mean, I always tease MS that, you know, he needs to retire so we can squeeze him in for one year in South Africa. But yeah, listen, I mean, so many that I played against, I think, you know, if I was playing, I'd like to keep Zaheer Khan away. But, you know, otherwise, yeah, just superstars all over the place. But, you know, I always tease MS; I played a lot against him. So, you know, we need to get him out to South Africa soon," said Smith.
Smith Wants Indian Players in SA20
At present, the BCCI has barred active Indian players from participating in foreign leagues. Meanwhile, Smith has expressed his readiness to host a league with Indian players participating in it.
“I think since South Africa came back into sports, India has been a great friend to South Africa. The fans in India have certainly built a strong relationship with South African cricket. So, from the SA20 perspective, India is a very important market for us. The fan base here is cricket-loving, and we want to grow and make sure that as many people tune in and love the game,” added Smith.
Also, Dinesh Karthik will be seen in action in the third season of SA20.
