The first ODI between India Women and Australia Women started on the wrong foot for the visiting team as they lost Smriti Mandhana early on in their innings. Despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, India struggled to get going. Mandhana once again struggled in front of Megan Schutt, who has dismissed her four times.
The right-handed batter fell for just eight runs off 10 balls and was forced to walk back to the pavilion after a decisive decision. She smashed two boundaries before getting dismissed by Schutt.
Smriti Mandhana Fails To Help India
During the final ball of the 3rd over, Schutt switched to round the wicket and bowled a short of length delivery outside off. Mandhana, hung back and went for a cut awkwardly however got a faint edge on it and Beth Mooney, stationed behind the stumps grabbed on to it as she dove to her left.
To confirm, the on-field umpires decided to send the decision upstairs. As the replays revealed, it looked like a clean catch as Mooney got her gloves underneath it and grabbed it cleanly. There was also a clear spike on the UltraEdge and hence, it was the end of Mandhana's innings.
Aussies Dominate In Brisbane
Australia got off to a flying start in the initial hour, demolishing India's top order, giving away only 48 runs in the first 13 overs. India, who batted first after winning the toss, was soon into trouble with losing the key wickets.
Smriti Mandhana went down early, then Priya Punia and Harleen Deol, and the Indians were at 48/3. Meanwhile, at the time of writing, Harmanpreet Kaur (11*) and Jemimah Rodrigues (0*) are batting and trying to stabilize the innings. Australia's disciplined bowling and tight fielding put India on the back foot as they attempt to return from the early shocks.
