Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper has ended the mystery around India's opening combination for the second Test match in Adelaide. The Hitman revealed the news in the pre-match press conference on Thursday, while also confirming that he will bat in the middle order, a place where he started his international career.

Rohit Sharma stated that he was watching KL Rahul bat in the first Test from home with his new born baby in arms. He applauded the Karanataka batter for his batting in that Test and added that he deserves to open. It is a big move from the Indian team management and quite a selfless one from the Indian skipper as he has also been successful at the top of the order.

"I was watching KL Rahul's batting from home with my new born in arms. He played brilliantly so there is no need to change his position. KL deserves that spot at this point."

Shubman Gill To Bat At 3 In Adelaide Test

The Indian management first dropped the hint of Rohit Sharma batting in the middle order during the practice game between PM XI and India. KL opened the innings there while Rohit Sharma batted at 4. However, he is likely to fit in at five or six in the second Test as Kohli will bat at 4.

Rohit Sharma will be batting in the middle order after 2172 days, and it would be interesting to see how he goes about his business during the pink-ball Test. KL Rahul batted brilliantly in the Perth Test scoring crucial 26 runs in the first innings and then stitched a record-stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second innings to set the stage for a big Indian win. Shubman Gill is also likely to be back at number 3 and Devdutt Padikkal will sit out after failing in the first match.
