The second edition of SA20 is in full swing and game 22 will see a reverse fixture between Paarl Royals (PR) and Durban Super Giants (DSG) in Kingsmead, Durban.

The Royals suffered a 57 runs defeat in their last encounter against the same opposition. The Keshav Maharaj-led unit leapfrog the Royals to take the crown position in the points table with the emphatic win in Boland Park. However, sharing the same 23 points from seven matches with five wins and a couple of losses, the Royals would look to avenge their loss like they did it against MICT in the course of the tournament.

DSG vs PR, Match 22- Toss Factor

The surface at Kingsmead assists both the pacers and spinners. Although the latter enjoyed good time here over the pacer, it does not rule out the fact that the new ball tends to move laterally. If the batters are watchful and implement a cautious approach, they can score runs at this venue.

Scenario: If Paarl Royals field first

The Royals have a good top order and some match-winners in their bowling department. Jason Roy and Jos Buttler form an explosive pair but they would hope to see the lower order fire more often than not. Also, Tabraiz Shamsi and Lungi Ngidi are two match-winners with the ball.

Scenario: If Durban Super Giants field first

The biggest strength of the Super Giants is their behemoth batting department that boasts of ferocious ball-strikers. The presence of Toni de Zorzi, Heinrich Klaasen, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, JJ Smuts can create callus in the opposition bowling on any particular day. Also they have more than a decent bowling unit that compliments the other departments very well.

DSG vs PR, Match 22- Top Captain and Vice Captain Choices

Scenario: If Paarl Royals field first

Lungi Ngidi (PR): The Proteas pacer has the ability to get enough movement to challenge the edges of the batters with the new ball. Ngidi also developed a good slower one that tends to decimate the opposition on more occasions than not. He has been in good form and is their leading wicket-taker during the coveted edition.

Heinrich Klaasen (DSG): The wicketkeeper-batter is undergoing a beast mode with his batting template. He has the tendency to ease off pressure and score big runs when the team is under scrutiny. Klaasen also smacked a 9-ball 30* in the last game, finishing off the innings with three consecutive sixes against Lungi Ngidi.

Scenario: If Durban Super Giants field first

Quinton de Kock (DSG): Yet another wicketkeeper-batter suggestion for the captain and vice-captain picks. After a rough patch following a memorable 2023 World Cup outing, de Kock found his groove back in the last game. He was demoted to no. 4 and it paid dividends after the southpaw helped his side recover from turbulence with a brilliant 83* runs knock.

Jos Buttler (PR): The English wicketkeeper-batter has been in fine tune with respect to timing the balls and scoring runs for his team. Buttler is the leading run-scorer for the Royals with 290 runs from seven innings. He has scored four 40-plus knocks during the ongoing mega-event.

DSG vs PR, Match 22- High Risk, High Reward Choices

Marcus Stoinis (DSG): If not with the willow, Stoinis has produced some gem of a spell with the ball during the SA20 2024. The Aussie has scalped eight wickets from his last three matches that includes a couple of three-fers. The conditions of South Africa have perfectly suited his style of bowling and he could be a good asset to multiply the earned points.

Tabraiz Shamsi (PR): The wrist spinner has blown hot and cold during the ongoing edition of South Africa’s premiere franchise event. However, his record on low-scoring grounds have been quite good. As the strips of various venues are getting weary down it is supposed to assist the spinners which Shamsi can capitalise on.
