Indian players during the victory parade in Mumbai (BCCI)
The Indian cricket team received a grand welcome back home on July 4 after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies. Roughly five days after clinching the title in Barbados on June 29, Rohit Sharma and co. arrived in Delhi on July 4 where they caught up with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a congratulatory breakfast.
The Indian players subsequently took flight for Mumbai where they performed a victory parade via an open bus for fans from Marine Drive to the city’s Wankhede Stadium.
At the iconic venue, the T20 World Cup winning players received a huge reward of Rs.125 crores from the BCCI where they performed another victory lap in front of a packed crowd.
Virat Kohli leads India’s victory lap at Wankhede Stadium
Shortly after Team India received a 2024 T20 World Cup-winning windfall from the BCCI, the ‘Men in Blue’ players performed a victory lap in front of a packed crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
Much to the admiration of the fans, senior batter Virat Kohli and dashing all-rounder Hardik Pandya along with the rest of their teammates sang and grooved to the tunes of ‘Vande Mataram’.
Team India’s historic win over South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup at Barbados ended their decade-long ICC trophy drought, and brought them their first World Cup (across any formats) since the 2011 ODI event.
Remarkably, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both concurrently announced their retirements from T20Is shortly after lifting the coveted title on June 29.
