India’s poor bowling performance on Day 4 of the fifth Test at The Oval has left member of parliament from Congress, Shashi Tharoor, in search of Virat Kohli. He took to social media to express that India is missing Kohli’s presence and urged the cricketer to reconsider his Test retirement.

Chasing 374, England lost 2 quick wickets in the first session on Day 4 of the Oval Test. However, Harry Brook (111) and Joe Root (105) stitched together a game-changing 195-run stand, taking England to 339/6, just 35 runs away from series victory.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor Urges Virat Kohli To Rethink Retirement

As England inched closer to a thrilling victory, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took to social media to express what millions of Indians were thinking: the team is missing Virat Kohli’s passion, presence, and performance.

He expressed that Kohli’s absence has been felt throughout the series as the young team has lacked intensity. Tharoor later added that Kohli must reconsider retirement from Test cricket, as the nation is in desperate need of his services.

Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket on May 12 through an emotional social media post. He finished with 123 Test matches, amassing 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 7 double-hundreds.

India Keep Slim Hope Alive With Late Comeback At The Oval

Coming back to the fifth Test, there was, however, a late spark of hope. Prasidh Krishna bowled a fiery spell, dismissing Jacob Bethell and the dangerous Joe Root in quick succession. With two new batters at the crease, Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton, India clawed back into the game.

Mohammed Siraj also found rhythm, troubling the batters with swing and bounce. But just as things got interesting, bad light and rain stopped play, pushing the final outcome to Day 5. Now, England need 35 runs to win, while India need to scalp 4 wickets, as Chris Woakes is likely to come out to bat despite a shoulder injury.
