The fifth Test between India and England is well-poised for a cracking finish. Chasing a mammoth 374-run target, England lost three crucial wickets before a sensational partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook swung the game into their favour.

However, Brook's untimely dismissal followed by Prasidh Krishna's fabulous spell that got rid of Jacob Bethell and the well-set Joe Root brought India right back into the contest before rain and bad light paused the cracking contest.

Meanwhile, England's injured all-rounder Chris Woakes was spotted in the dressing room. Considering Woakes has injured his left shoulder, his appearance made the fans curious about his potential participation in the remainder of the match.

Can Woakes Bat In 2nd Innings Of Oval Test vs India?

Chris Woakes sustained a nasty shoulder injury after landing awkwardly while trying to save a boundary for his side. As a result, he could neither bat nor bowl, with the ECB formally sidelining him from the contest.

However, as things currently stand, Woakes is still a part of England's playing XI and he can come out to bat if the team needs him in the middle. As revealed by NDTV Sports in its live blog, Woakes is eligible to bat despite his injury.

Previously, Rishabh Pant also came out to bat despite a fractured toe. Anil Kumble participated in a Test against West Indies despite a fractured jaw; South Africa's former captain Graeme Smith and legendary West Indies pacer Malcolm Marshall also carried on playing inspite of serious injuries.

Thus, Woakes is eligible to bat; however, whether he will bat or not is entirely up to him. If he comes out to bat despite such a devastating injury, the English all-rounder will undoubtedly receive massive applause for his bravery.
