The ongoing Test series between England and India is all spiced up, but the drama picked up at the Lord’s Test. A fiery on-field clash between the English openers and Indian captain Shubman Gill stole the spotlight, raising questions about Gill’s conduct on the field.
Ahead of the fourth Test starts at the iconic Old Trafford, former Indian batter Dinesh Karthik was asked about Gill’s recent press interaction regarding this situation. Answering this, Karthik came out in support of Gill, saying he’s been genuinely impressed by the young skipper’s mindset off the field.
Dinesh Karthik Backs Gill Over Press Conference Remarks
Since the fiery exchange in the Lord’s Test, the ongoing Test series has become more intense. The heated moment crossed the boundary line and spilled off the field, becoming the talk of the cricketing world. In the pre-match press conference, Shubman Gill addressed the controversy head-on with a sharp, no-nonsense response that silenced critics.
In a discussion with Sky Sports, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was asked about Shubman Gill’s press conference. Standing firmly in support, Karthik said Gill is right to assert himself, adding that every captain needs to build his own identity.
“I have really enjoyed him as a captain so far. On the field, he is improving, but off the field is where I have been most impressed. I think yesterday’s press conference was absolutely box office. Apparently, it was quiet until the last question was asked about why things had gotten a bit spicy. And he said, ‘Look, England were 90 seconds late and we don’t appreciate that,” he said.
“I like it. It’s good to be feisty. You need to have an identity as a captain, and Shubman Gill from that day at the Lord’s is actually shown he’s got a lot more aggression inside him, and that's how he wants to lead the Indian team. Yes, the result didn’t go his way, but the point is it's meant for a thrilling Test series so far and his captaincy is right at the forefront of it, backed by his batting skills as well,” he added.
After a dramatic defeat in the Lord’s Test, Team India faced a setback, trailing in the series by a 1-2 margin. Now, they head to England’s fortress, Old Trafford, where the visitors have struggled in the past. Aiming for a stronger bounce-back, Team India will be eyeing a dominant victory.
