Punjab Kings (PBKS) owner Preity Zinta has voiced her frustration on social media following a controversial third umpire decision during PBKS's narrow defeat against DC in the 66th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday.
What Happened In PBKS Vs DC Match?
The controversial moment of the match came during the 15th over of PBKS’s innings. Shashank Singh launched a powerful shot off Mohit Sharma’s final delivery, seemingly sending the ball over the boundary ropes for what would have been a crucial six. The on-field umpire, unsure of whether the ball had cleared the ropes, referred the decision to the third umpire for a closer review.
At the boundary, Karun Nair, the player attempting to catch the ball, immediately signaled that the ball had gone over the ropes. However, after reviewing the footage, the third umpire ruled that there was no definitive evidence to show that Nair’s foot had not touched or crossed the boundary line while attempting to catch the ball. As a result, the umpire decided to award a single run rather than the six.
Preity Zinta Speaks Out On The Unsure Call
Unsurprisingly, PBKS owner Preity Zinta was quick to express her dismay. The actress took to social media after the match, criticizing the umpiring decision. In the post, she called the mistake 'unacceptable' and demanded a higher standard of officiating, especially in such a high-stakes competition as the IPL.
“In a such a high profile tournament with so much technology at the Third Umpire’s disposal such mistakes are unacceptable & simply shouldn’t happen. I spoke To Karun after the game & he confirmed it was DEFINITELY a 6 ! I rest my case ! #PBKSvsDC #IPL2025”
It is also important to note that PBKS fans also expressed their frustration on social media, with many labeling the decision as a major turning point in the match.
After this defeat, PBKS’s have faced significant setback of securing the top spot in the points table. They now sit second with 17 points from 13 games. PBKS will now need to bounce back quickly as they face MI in their last group-stage match, scheduled for May 26.
