Sameer Rizvi delivered a career-defining performance on Saturday evening, blasting an unbeaten 58 off just 25 deliveries to steer Delhi Capitals (DC) to a six-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their final league game of the IPL 2025 season. Chasing a daunting target, DC appeared to be faltering under pressure before Sameer Rizvi stepped in with a breathtaking display of power-hitting that changed the course of the match.

Walking in with more than 114 runs still needed for victory, Sameer Rizvi soaked up early pressure. His innings was decorated with three crisp boundaries and four towering. His sensational knock earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award and ended DC’s season on a high note, even though the team narrowly missed out on a playoff spot.

After the match, Rizvi opened up about his mindset, revealing the self-doubt he had been grappling with. He also acknowledged that he took his time initially, assessing the conditions before accelerating.

"Feels good to get the POTM. Have been working hard for 2-3 months about my game. I didn't have confidence before that I'd do well, but it has come after this innings. "When I went in, we needed more than 120. I took 4-5 balls, knew that the wicket was good, and then played my shots," he explained. Sameer said as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.

Sameer Rizvi's Performance In IPL 2025

The win was particularly sweet for Rizvi, who had a quiet season up until this game. Bought for INR 95 lakhs by Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was seen as a promising young finisher, owing to his strong domestic T20 form for Uttar Pradesh.

Before this match, Rizvi had managed just 63 runs across three innings, and his IPL 2025 tally now stands at 121 runs from four innings at a strike rate of 153.16 and an average of 24.57.

While Delhi Capitals finish their campaign outside the top four. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, have already secured qualification for the playoffs and currently sit second on the points table with 17 points.
