In a hilarious social media banter, actor Varun Dhawan took credit for Travis Head’s dismissal in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final. A fan mistook him for Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy and Dhawan played along with a cheeky reply.

The semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 saw two heavyweights India and Australia clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Batting first, Australia set up a competitive total of 264 runs.

For the men in blue, their big threat was opener Travis Head. However, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy ensured Head did not become a problem for his side.

Varun Dhawan Takes Credit For Varun Chakravarthy’s Wicket

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan found himself at the centre of an unexpected and hilarious social media frenzy during the India vs Australia Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final.

As Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy dismissed the dangerous Travis Head, excited fans flooded Dhawan’s Instagram, mistakenly congratulating him for the crucial wicket.

The confusion was due to the fact that they had the same first name, and people rushed to Dhawan's social media to wish 'his' success. Instead of correcting them, the clever actor spoofed them with a sarcastic message.

The actual hero, Varun Chakravarthy, had delivered a cunning ball that made Head play a mistimed lofted shot and lost his wicket at long-off.

While Travis Head was dismissed early, Steve Smith (73) and Alex Carey (61) powered Australia to a competitive total.

India’s Chase Hangs In The Balance

Meanwhile, India lost their openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the powerplay, leading to early pressure. However, Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli knitted a solid 91-run partnership for the third wicket and helped the team surpass 200-run mark.

Though, India still needs 40 odd runs in 7 overs as of this writing to beat arch nemesis Australia and qualify for the final of Champions Trophy 2025.
