Instagram India 2025 Report: Cricket dominates as RCB's win and Women's WC sets search records

As reported by Times of India, the popular social media platform, Instagram, released its annual Year-in-Review report 2025. The Meta-owned highlighted that, as always, cricket remained the hot topic across India throughout the year. 

Indian cricket has indeed seen trending shifting rises throughout the year. Hence, the searches is significant measure displaying the love the natives have for the sport. 

RCB's maiden IPL title; India women's WC triumph brought cricket madness to Instagram 

As noted, key events like India's iconic Champions Trophy victory and the across-the-board use of the Royal Challengers Bangalore chant "Ee Sala Cup Namdu" after RCB's 18-year-long wait-ending IPL win were the most searched on Instagram.  

On top of that, Virat Kohli's Test retirement and finally the most important Indian women's cricket team winning the 2025 World Cup ranked the charts. Notably, the above-mentioned memorable moments increased the platform's popularity, activity, and conversations.   

Once again, cricket remains a hot topic in India 

In India, cricket is not just followed, it is practised as a religion, with ICC tournaments and leagues like the Indian Premier League becoming the carnivals celebrated across the nation.  

Moreover, the frenzy and fandom around legendary players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and even Smriti Mandhana is unmatched. Nonetheless, the rising craze about young and upcoming stars cannot be undermined, as Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma topped the tally of most looked-up people in Google's 'Year in Search 2025'. 

Apart from that, the world-leading search engine, Google, also displayed that among IPL franchises, Punjab Kings dominated global searches, finishing 4th worldwide behind giants like PSG, Benfica and Toronto Blues. While Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow Super Giants also ranked high globally.

And no doubt, IPL remained the top-searched keyword overall in India in the year 2025. With people intrigued by IPL live scores and the 2025 orange cap and purple cap winners, the cash-rich tournament remains the most discussed topic in India. 

As the 2025 is all set to bid adieu, it's clear that cricket dominated not only on our TV screens but also our mobile phones.
