When Deepak Chahar stepped onto Chepauk’s hallowed turf in Mumbai Indians’ blues, it was more than the El Clasico! It was a collision of loyalties. The pacer, who wore Chennai Super Kings’ yellow for seven seasons, faced his former team in a high-octane IPL 2025 opener.

Though CSK clinched a nervy four-wicket win, Chahar’s all-round show, 28 runs off 15 balls and a wicket, stole hearts, blurring the lines between past and present. Off the field, the drama unfolded on social media. Chahar’s sister, Malti, playfully trolled Chahar's switch.

Malti Hits The Sweet Spot With 'Kattappa' Meme

Malti trolled Deepak Chahar with a meme comparing him to Bahubali’s betrayed hero, capturing the bittersweet essence of his MI debut.

She shared a viral Instagram story, blending humour and fandom. Her collage juxtaposed Deepak’s on-field moment with Bahubali’s iconic backstabbing scene, captioning it with cheeky nostalgia.

The post shared widely, became an instant hit, symbolising the emotional undertones of his franchise shift. Yet, that didn't stop Kattappa get a thrashing from the Bahubali himself. In another video, MS Dhoni was seen giving Chahar the bat treatment for trolling Dhoni and Jadeja on the pitch earlier while batting.

Chahar's Heroics Fail To Scathe CSK

Speaking of the match, CSK’s chase of 156 was anchored by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s fiery 53 (22 balls) and Rachin Ravindra’s composed 65* (45 balls). Despite early jitters, Ravindra’s calm under pressure sealed the win with five balls to spare.

Earlier, CSK’s Noor Ahmad (4-18) and Khaleel Ahmed (3-29) stifled MI’s batting lineup, restricting them to 155/9. Chahar’s late cameo (28 off 15) added respectability but fell short of a defendable total.
