Cheteshwar Pujara, one of India’s most dependable Test cricketers, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 37-year-old shared the news on Sunday, bringing an end to an incredible career that lasted over a decade.

Notably, Pujara played 103 Test matches for India, scoring 7,195 runs with 19 centuries and 35 fifties. He was the rock of India’s batting line-up, especially in tough overseas matches and played a key role in many historic wins. His last game for India was the World Test Championship final against Australia in June 2023.

Puja Pujara’s Emotional Message To Cheteshwar

After his retirement announcement, Pujara’s wife, Puja, posted an emotional message on Instagram. She wrote

"Be in the present as the present is the present of the supreme presence’ - a guiding principle of the Bhagvad Gita which is something you have been living by for quite sometime now, and hope it continues to guide you in this next phase!

Puja also opened up about their journey together. She shared how, when they first met, she didn’t know anything about cricket. But through Pujara’s passion and dedication, she grew to love the game.

I will miss cheering you on the field, following the unshakeable routines, and at times maybe also the anxiousness before a match/series.

For all the missed celebrations and adjustments made in order to prioritise cricket, lets make up for it now.

Cheteshwar Pujara himself shared how much it meant to represent India, saying wearing the Indian jersey and singing the national anthem were his proudest moments. He thanked fans for their love and support, adding,

“All good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket.”

Cheteshwar Pujara And Puja Pabari’s Love Story

Cheteshwar Pujara and Puja Pabari’s love story began in a traditional arranged marriage setup, where their families introduced them to each other. The couple tied the knot on February 13, 2013, in a traditional ceremony surrounded by close family and friends. What started as an arranged match soon turned into a strong and loving partnership.

Over the years, they have stood by each other through every high and low of life and cricket. Puja often calls herself the “quiet support system” in Cheteshwar’s life, helping him stay focused on his game.

In 2018, their family grew when they welcomed their daughter, Aditi. Alongside being a supportive wife and mother, Puja runs her own interior design business and recently authored a book titled The Diary of a Cricketer’s Wife.
