Pakistan pacer Salman Mirza has backed new T20I captain Salman Ali Agha, calling him a calm and positive leader as the men in green gear up for the Asia Cup 2025. Speaking to the press, Mirza said Agha is leading a young team and will learn through the process.
In an interesting move, Pakistan moved away from Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to appoint Salman Agha as T20I captain for the Asia Cup 2025.
He has been tasked to lead a young side with assistance from seniors like Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Afridi. Still, facing India will be an uphill battle for the inexperienced skipper.
Salman Mirza Is Confident In Salman Agha’s Leadership Potential
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s left-arm pace, speaking to the press in Dubai, has backed his captain, Salman Agha, to deliver positive results in the Asia Cup 2025. He said Agha is calm and is tactically brilliant even in pressure moments.
"Salman Agha is a very positive and calm person. Even if he faces difficulties, he doesn’t put pressure on anyone in the moment. He discusses things with you later and sorts them out. The best thing is that this is a young team playing in the Asia Cup. Every captain has to start somewhere, so even though this is his first assignment, we are very hopeful for good results," Mirza said.
When asked about the upcoming India vs Pakistan clash on September 14, Mirza played down the hype. He said all games are important, and his team isn’t focused on just one opponent.
"Sir, I don’t think it makes much difference. Playing in such pressure games is exactly how you grow as a player. And it’s not just India; there are other tough opponents as well. We are fully preparing for them too. Of course, India matches will be big games, but our preparations are going very well and, Insha’Allah, you’ll see good results," he added.
Pakistan To Play Tri-Series Before Asia Cup
To prepare well for the 2025 Asia Cup, Pakistan will play a tri-series with Afghanistan and the UAE, beginning on August 29. The men in green will play a minimum of 5 games, which is crucial for their preparations.
That being said, Pakistan’s Asia Cup campaign kicks off against Oman on September 12, followed by the big clash against India on September 14.
