Fans are the real element of the game of cricket, as their energy and passion bring life to the sport. They don’t just fill stadiums; they carry a quiet hope of taking home a memory, something that lives long after the final ball bowled.
When a ball soars into the stands, every fan secretly hopes to clutch it and walk away, and the wish is about to become reality. Cricket Australia is set to new rule in the upcoming BBL season which will excite the fans.
Cricket Australia makes a game-changing move for the fans
Whenever a batter smashes a six and it lands into the stands, fans' energy touches the sky, and often they wish to collect the ball as a memory of the match. But that was against cricket’s rule, but Cricket Australia is rewriting tradition itself, in the upcoming BBL and WBBL. In the upcoming season, they arranged a special treat for the fans.
In a significant development, Cricket Australia is set to introduce a new rule where fans can take the ball with them. In the upcoming BBL and WBBL season, if a ball lands in the stands or skips over the boundary in the first over of both innings, fans will be allowed to take the ball with them.
The bold move is called the ‘Westpac Keep the Ball’, an initiative sponsored by CA’s banking partner, Westpac. To ensure the flow of play continues smoothly, every innings will begin with a special Westpac-branded ball, while umpires will keep spare balls ready to step in the moment.
A move bringing fans closer to the game
As the fans have always been an integral part of the game since the beginning, Cricket Australia is set to introduce the moment to bring them closer. Speaking about the initiative, CA’s executive general manager Alistair Dobson shared that this move is designed to elevate the fan experience.
“Player connection drives the Big Bash Leagues, and this initiative further demonstrates our commitment to delivering fan-focused innovation. Building 'Keep the Ball' in collaboration with Westpac has been a priority since their onboarding, and we're thankful for their support to bring this unforgettable moment to life,” Dobson said in a statement.
The T20 thrills are coming back on Australian soil as the Women’s Big Bash League is set to commence on November 9. Soon after, the Big Bash League rolls in from December 14. Fans are eagerly waiting for the new experience in the upcoming tournaments.
