After the champions arrived at his residence on Wednesday evening, the PM was engaged in heartfelt conversations with each of the champions. From Deepti’s tattoo to Amanjot Kaur’s juggling catch, the conversation feels much more than a professional meeting.

Ending years of waiting, the India Women lifted their maiden Women’s World Cup on November 2. Riding with the waves of highs and lows, they defeated South Africa Women by 52 runs in the final and fulfilled the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians. As the nation can’t stop praising its own daughters, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited the Women in Blue to congratulate them for their extraordinary triumph.

Meeting the PM, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur recalled how he had backed them after the heartbreak in the 2017 World Cup, and Smriti Mandhana added that his words had served as a motivating factor in the tournament. As the Indian all-rounder was acknowledging PM’s support, he asked about Deepti Sharma’s Instagram bio of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and Lord Hanuman tattoo. Answering it with a smile, Deepti said it gives her strength.

PM connects with the team and lauds their champion spirit

In the final match, captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s catch sealed the historic title, and that outstanding effort didn’t go unnoticed by Modi’s eyes. After he hailed the Indian captain for that catch, Harmanpreet replied that it was for good luck.

In the high-voltage match, Amanjot Kaur’s juggling catch of South African captain Laura Wolvaardt was a game-changer, and PM can’t resist a joke about it. Before the knockouts.
