In a significant development, Alyssa Healy has been ruled out of the Sydney Sixers WBBL 11 season opener against the Perth Scorchers after sustaining a thumb injury during the recent ODI World Cup semi-final in India.

It is important to mention that Healy injured her right thumb. The incident occurred when she dropped a sharp chance off Jemimah Rodrigues, with the ball striking the end of her thumb after deflecting off the batter’s top edge.

Despite the painful blow, Healy continued to play through the injury. Rodrigues went on to score a brilliant 127 not out, helping India chase down Australia’s massive total of 338 with nine balls to spare.

Alyssa Healy faces another fitness blow

It is worth noting that the Sydney Sixers confirmed on Thursday that Healy’s injury is 'minor' but decided not to risk her for Sunday’s clash in Perth. Medical staff are hopeful Healy could return early in the WBBL season if she can manage batting and wicket-keeping duties while wearing a protective splint.

The injury comes soon after Healy recovered from a calf strain that kept her out of Australia’s final two matches in the World Cup group stage.

The Sixers squad against the Perth Scorchers will be announced this Saturday. The Sixers will begin their WBBL 11 season on Sunday, November 9, at the WACA.

Alyssa Healy's WBBL stats

Taking a look at the overall stats, Alyssa Healy has played 120 matches for Sydney Sixers and made 3006 runs at an average of 26.83 and a strike-rate of 134.37. It is important to note that in the last season, Alyssa Healy featured in just 4 matches and made 20 runs at an average of 5.00 and a strike-rate of 90.90.
