The popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, once again tested cricket knowledge in its August 29, 2025, episode of Season 17. A question worth ₹7.5 lakh was asked to a contestant, focusing on Indian women’s cricket and one of its brightest stars.

On this special episode, the women’s national hockey team players participated as contestants on Kaun Banega Crorepati. Three players took the hot seat and advanced steadily through multiple rounds to reach the ₹7.5 lakh question.

The ₹7.5 Lakh Question In KBC!

The question given to the contestants was, “Which batter was named Wisden's leading Women's Cricketer in the world in 2025 after scoring 1659 international runs in 2024?” The four options given were Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Smriti Mandhana.

As they faced the crucial question, uncertainty struck. The trio appeared confused by the options and decided to use one of their lifelines. One contestant even said, "Ye cricket hai na isliye mushkil ho raha hai."

After discussing for a few seconds, they opted for the Audience Poll as a lifeline, where the majority of the audience selected option D – Smriti Mandhana. Trusting the crowd’s judgment, the players went with the audience’s choice. Their decision proved correct, as Smriti Mandhana was indeed the right answer, enabling them to clear the ₹7.5 lakh round successfully.

Mandhana's Phenomenal 2024-25 Run!

Meanwhile, Mandhana enjoyed a phenomenal run in 2024, amassing 1659 international runs, the highest by any woman cricketer across formats in that calendar year. With the Wisden award, she joined the ranks of legendary women cricketers who have been honoured by Wisden in the past.

Other than this recognition, Mandhana also collected many accolades in 2024-25, as she was named ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year. She also led RCB to their maiden WPL title, became the first Indian woman with centuries in all formats, and also set records for the fastest ODI century and the highest T20I score for India.
