The Delhi Premier League 2025 eliminator at the Arun Jaitley Stadium turned dramatic after a heated on-field altercation between West Delhi Lions skipper Nitish Rana and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi, who has been in the headlines ever since his IPL 2025 debut for his controversial antics.

Digvesh Singh Rathi, who has often grabbed attention for his animated wicket celebrations and fiery spats with opponents, once again found himself in the middle of controversy.

What happened between Nitish Rana and Digvesh Rathi?

The incident unfolded when South Delhi Superstars faced West Delhi Lions in a high-stakes eliminator clash. During the match, Rathi paused midway through his run-up while bowling to Rana, disrupting the batter’s concentration as he was preparing for a sweep shot. On the very next ball, Rana retaliated by imitating the same action, stopping Rathi mid-delivery.

The situation quickly escalated, after Rana hit Digvesh a boundary with a reverse sweep, the two exchanged heated words. Broadcast visuals showed Rathi allegedly mouthing something to Rana, who in turn charged at the bowler aggressively while mouthing, "Kya hua?" before umpires and teammates intervened to prevent the clash from spiralling further.

Far from being unsettled, Nitish Rana responded in the best way possible, with the bat. The West Delhi Lions captain smashed a breathtaking 134 off just 55 balls, decorated with 15 sixes and 8 fours, at a staggering strike rate of 243.64. His whirlwind knock powered his team to a comfortable seven-wicket win while chasing down 201/5 set by South Delhi Superstars.

For South Delhi, Anmol Sharma (55) and Tejasvi Dahiya (60) played vital roles in posting a competitive total. However, their bowlers had no answer to Rana’s fireworks. Digvesh Singh Rathi, the centre of controversy, endured a night to forget, leaking 39 runs in just 2 overs without picking a wicket.

Though disciplinary action might follow due to the heated confrontation, Rana’s fiery response with the bat ensured West Delhi Lions booked a spot in Qualifier 2 against East Delhi Riders on August 30 at 7:00 PM IST.
