Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the winners of IPL 2025, have announced financial help for the families affected by the tragic stampede that took place outside Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, 2025. The stampede claimed 11 lives and left more than 50 people injured.
RCB Steps Up With Financial and Emotional Support For Grieving Families
Nearly three months later, RCB shared an emotional message on social media, saying that they will give ₹25 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives.
“We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us. Part of what makes our city, our community & our team unique. Their absence will echo in the memories of each one of us. No amount of support can ever fill the space they’ve left behind. But as a first step, and with the deepest respect, RCB has extended ₹25 lakh each to their families.
Not just as financial aid, but as a promise of compassion, unity, and ongoing care. This is also the beginning of 𝗥𝗖𝗕 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦: a long-term commitment for meaningful action that begins by honouring their memory."
What Happened On June 4
The stampede occurred when nearly three lakh people gathered outside the stadium for RCB’s victory parade, celebrating the team’s first-ever IPL trophy. However, the crowd was far larger than expected, and without proper crowd control, chaos broke out and lead to the tragic incident.
In July, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) ruled that RCB was responsible for attracting such a huge, unregulated crowd. The court noted that the team had announced the celebrations on social media without taking permission from the police or city authorities.
Later, a commission led by Justice John Michael Cunha also declared the Chinnaswamy Stadium “unsafe” for such large gatherings.
Initially, the Karnataka government suspended four senior police officers for lapses in managing the crowd. However, by July 28, the suspensions were lifted and the officers were reinstated while facing ongoing disciplinary inquiries.
