India’s promising opener Abhishek Sharma’s rough patch followed him to South Africa as he failed in second consecutive game. After scoring just 7 runs in the series opener, Abhishek was dismissed off 4 runs in the second T20I by Gerald Coetzee and fans on the internet showed no mercy.

Abhishek Sharma announced his arrival in international cricket in some style as he scored a century on his debut tour to Zimbabwe. However, since then, he has been struggling to adapt. International cricket is a different ballgame, and all the hype Abhishek had accumulated in IPL was deflated in quick time.

The South Africa tour brought no relief whatsoever as Abhishek Sharma’s struggles saw no bounds. He was dismissed off single digit scores in the first two T20Is, both against pacers. Sharma’s flawed technique against swing and seam movements is exposed and fans are not pleased with it.

Abhishek Sharma faces heat after twin failures

In the second T20I, Abhishek Sharma miscued a pull shot on Coetzee’s short ball and holed out to Marco Jansen at short fine leg. With that wicket, India landed in trouble, and fans lashed out at the youngster for consistently failing on the biggest stage.

Many referred to him as overhyped while some also named him ‘Zimbabwe Bully.’ A few eagle eyed fans also exposed his technique against pacers, especially on tricky overseas wickets.

Indeed, Abhishek Sharma has not met the set standards so far. But its also true that international cricket is unforgiving. He is still 21 years old and needs some time to upgrade his skills and adapt better to conditions. Moreover, the ongoing T20I series against South Africa is still long, and Abhishek still has two more chances of redemption. Hopefully, with the right guidance and experience, Abhishek Sharma will bounce back stronger.
