BAN vs AFG 3rd ODI: Bangladesh gets winning momentum
Bangladesh bounced back from a brutal 92-run loss in the first game to steal a 68-run comfortable victory in the 2nd ODI, thus levelling the series. Skipper Shanto led the charge, batting first. His 76 off 119 balls steered Bangladesh to 252 runs, a fighting total on Sharjah’s wicket.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan fumbled in the chase. Taskin Ahmed’s new ball spell got rid of dangerman Gurbaz before Nasum Ahmed grabbed 3 wickets to slow down the pace of the game. Rahmat Shah did a favour by gifting his wicket away in a run-out mishap, and there’s little Rashid or Nabi could do to control the required run rate. Bangladesh restricted Afghanistan to 184 and successfully saved the series.
BAN vs AFG 3rd ODI: Afghanistan’s shortcomings with bat exposed
Allah Ghazanfar’s 6-wicket-haul hid Afghanistan’s batting woes in the first game, only to be exposed in the next contest. A 252-run target was definitely achievable. However, their white-ball specialist, Gurbaz, was dismissed cheaply for the second consecutive time. Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah had a partnership, but the latter’s run-out ruined the chase.
Their middle order fell like a pack of cards, and eventually, Afghanistan fell short of 68 runs. Even in the first ODI, Afghanistan’s top 5 batters struggled to form partnerships, but fortunately, Nabi came to the rescue. All things said and done, Afghanistan has to go back to the drawing board and figure out ways to score runs on the tricky wicket of Sharjah. The stakes are high in this series decider contest.
BAN vs AFG 3rd ODI: Sharjah Pitch Report
Sharjah’s wicket has been difficult for batters due to its slow surface. Spinners will dominate in both innings. Fast bowlers can also leave an impact with the new ball. Overall, batting first is essentially for the toss winning captain as chasing in a high-stake game will only add to the pressure.
