Yuzvendra Chahal Says He’s Not Thinking Of Asia Cup Or World Cup Amidst T20I Series In WI

Yuzvendra Chahal has been in an out of the Indian team for quite some time. The ace spinner featured in a home ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year, however, was dropped from the subsequent series against Australia.

Chahal was also benched from the ODI series in West Indies, before earning a callback to the side for the first T20I against hosts in Tarouba. He celebrated his return to international cricket with a tight spell, dismissing both West Indies openers cheaply within an over.

With Team India squads for much-awaited Asia Cup and World Cup yet to be finalised, the 33-year-old spinner recently stated that he is not thinking much about his place in the two tournaments.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s opening burst against West Indies handed Team India an early advantage in the first T20I. Despite his sublime powerplay spell, the ‘Men in Blue’ went down by four runs in a final-over thriller to concede the opening lead to the hosts.

Ahead of the all-important second T20I, Chahal was asked during a pre-match conference about his plans for forthcoming Asia Cup and World Cup events. The spin veteran responded that his primary focus for the time being remains the ongoing T20I series in West Indies, as he does not want to think about a potential selection possibility for World Cup since it is beyond his control.

“The only thing I am focused on is that I am here, there are four matches left and I have to perform well in it. I don't think about things that are not in my hand. I think step by step. I am not thinking about the Asia Cup or the World Cup, I am only thinking about the T20I series against West Indies.”

Chahal, despite being one of the primary white-ball spinners in the Indian team, was benched throughout the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. As it turned out, Rohit Sharma and co. were crashed out from the semifinals following their 10-wicket larruping at the hands of eventual winners England.

Chahal is currently the highest wicket-taker for India across T20Is, having snared 93 of them from just 76 games. He has also collected 121 ODI wickets from 72 appearances.
