Jos Buttler launched Manchester Originals off to a flier against London Spirit in match number six of the ongoing The Hundred 2023 season. The opening batter charted a six-laden 62 at the top, and formed a 67-run rapid stand with number three Max Holden.

Much to the crowd’s entertainment amidst constant rain interruptions, Buttler blasted a 98-metre six onto the leg side against Spirit’s new-ball pacer Daniel Worrall earlier in the innings.

Jos Buttler, opening the innings with Phil Salt, formed a 44-run stand at the top. After Salt’s dismissal, the Originals’ captain kept bombing London Spirit bowlers from his end, and registered his first half-century of the season.

The cricketer faced just 36 deliveries to list a scintillating 62, in an innings glittered with three boundaries and five sixes. Notably, one of those sixes went 98 metres up in the air earlier in the innings off the bowling of Daniel Worrall.

In the meantime, the match was called off owing to persistent rains in Manchester.

The home side reached 138-5 off their 80 balls, with Buttler’s 62 marking as the biggest contribution of the innings. Opener Phil Salt and number three Max Holden slammed double-quick 20s, while Ashton Turner and Jamie Overton were the unbeaten batters at the crease by the time rains had stopped play.

Manchester Originals will now face Birmingham Phoenix in their next The Hundred 2023 fixture, set to be played on August 7 in Manchester’s Old Trafford.
