Indian captain, Rohit Sharma recently expressed his excitement for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This is a significant development as Rohit, who is also the second-highest run-getter in the history of the format, hasn't donned the national colours in the T20Is since the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Rohit Sharma confirms return for T20 World Cup 2024 in USA

Rohit, along with another veteran Indian batter, Virat Kohli has been absent from the T20I circuit following India's early exit from the previous World Cup.

In Rohit's absence, Hardik Pandya has been the stand-in captain, leading the Indian side against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and currently in the T20I series against West Indies.

During the inauguration of his new cricket academy in California, USA, Rohit publicly confirmed his plans to participate in the upcoming global tournament. His comments stirred excitement among cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

"More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup (2024) happening in this part of the world. So, I'm pretty sure everyone is excited. So yeah, we look forward to that," said Rohit in a video that has spread like wildfire on Twitter.

Currently, the Indian skipper is enjoying a much-needed respite due to workload management while India, under Hardik Pandya's captaincy, is playing against the West Indies. Following this, India is slated to play against Ireland, with the returning Jasprit Bumrah leading the side.

As for Rohit, his current focus lies in relaxation and preparing for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 which is slated to be played in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. However, with his recent comments, it seems evident that the 36-year-old’s sights are firmly set on leading the Indian side to glory in the T20 World Cup 2024.
